[Insert witty, fantastic setting details here. Seriously, all you really need to know is that it's a festival. A MONTH LONG festival with Fireworks happening every night once Darkness falls.]
[Every Squall needs a Rinoa to bother him. For serious! It's totally an unwritten rule!]
[She walks up to him cheerfully, holding a small container with some sort of food in it. It's nothing she's used to eating, but she's found that they actually taste pretty good.]
Here Squall, you should try one. [Holding the tray out to him, Rinoa waits patiently for him to at least acknowledge her presence if nothing else.]
[He recognizes her. She's that Warrior of Cosmos he fought, earlier in the cycle. Cloud can't help but tense up, keeping an eye on her in case she challenged him.
He didn't plan on fighting here, but he kept his guard up anyway.]
[A festival, huh? Stands with food and activities. People running around everywhere. Cloud isn't sure what kind of world he's in, but he sure doesn't mind it. Better than mindlessly fighting all the time.
Walking through the crowd, dodging people here and there as he passes, Cloud can't help but bump into others as he tries to squeeze by.]
[ She stumbles back a little, then stops as she registers who bumped into her and gives a huff. She's not even sure he stopped to see who he bumped into! ]
You should be! You almost made me drop these little ones.
[ She has goldfish in a bag. Be hittin' up alll the games. ]
[Kuja is quite bewildered by the unfamiliar setting. For once, he finds himself speechless. Isn't he supposed to be dead? If he isn't, then where is he? He's so bewildered, in fact, that he doesn't notice Cloud until Cloud's shoulder strikes his own. He turns.]
Pardon me. [His tone doesn't exactly sound forgiving. There's still dust in his hair and on his clothes from his previous location beneath a gigantic, collapsing tree, and, realizing this, he brushes some of it off of his sleeves and jacket.]
[She's no Selphie, but Rinoa certainly does enjoy a good festival. There's just so much to do and so many different things to see! All in all it's a load of fun and she's really looking forward to exploring what this festival has to offer.]
[ Aerith's not quite sure what she's here for... but at a tropical setting like this, she knows there's one thing she can do. ]
Hello there! Would you like a flower crown? [ she's been gathering up the flowers and arranging them--some like a crown to top a headful of hair, others just two or three flowers to cover a hair pin. She's having some fun with the colors, though she's been careful not to gather too many. ]
[ Being dead, it's very important to find creative ways in which to keep oneself busy; and Zack leaves no opportunity to get out of the Lifestream and stretch his legs a little unexploited.
Nor can he resist the call of a little fun part-time work, when he runs across a booth of games curiously absent of its very own overly enthusiastic carnival barker. ]
Hey, you! Yeah, you! Step right up, come on! Win your girl something cute! Don't be cheap!
[ Oh yeah, he's going to earn all of the junkfood he's getting paid in for this. ]
Oh, she should help. She looks around to pinpoint Zack's likely target (because it obviously can't be her) and finds a nearby guy looking wrong-footed from the sudden sales pitch. Aerith leans toward him with a sweet and disarming smile--emphasis on "disarming". ]
It looks cool! I know I'd be impressed if my boyfriend could win a game like this. I don't have a chance myself. Oh! Try it for me, okay?
[/sob, giving in. Hearing that voice shouldn't have been surprising, considering Aerith is here, but it is. Turning to see the man it belonged to? Even more shocking. Painfully so, in fact.
Cloud indecisively hovers nearby. To stay and watch from a distance or to walk away?]
[The games attract his attention, though they seem simplistic compared to the games he's used to playing. Pausing near Zack's booth, Sephiroth quietly watches him calling out to the crowd for a few moments, then approaches. The man seems eager to have people play.]
I don't have any currency, but may I try? I don't need a prize.
[They don't look like anything he'd want. Nothing fun, like a sword or Materia.]
[Dressed in his now-ragged finery, Kuja seats himself beside a fountain, watching the water rise and then fall in an endless cycle, ignoring the festivities for now.
He wipes the blood from his face and brushes the dust from his hair, wondering why and how it is that he's yet among the living.]
[What's happening? What is this place? Sephiroth knows he should be in the lab for his monthly tests, but there are no researchers in sight, and no Professor either, thankfully. But there are people, so many people, all of unknown clearance levels. And games, and food, and no supervision...
He's obviously not supposed to be here.
He smiles. Of course, being a curious child, he's going to explore everything.]
[Legend has it, one of the locals had told Julia, that if you make a wish during the fireworks, that wish will come true.
[There is a quiet, niggling voice in the back of her mind that says this is nonsense, but her whimsy wins out, and after all, there's no harm in trying. She watches the fireworks for a moment, trying to think - of Timber, of her fans who want to see their country free - but what comes to mind instead is her daughter's face.
[It's selfish, she thinks, very selfish, but she clasps her hands together and closes her eyes anyway.]
[Only a short distance away there's a young woman staring up at the same fireworks. Maybe wishing on them is silly, legend or not, but she doesn't care.]
[One hand settling on the familiar ring, she stares at the fireworks for a moment before closing her eyes and desperately wishing for a face she only kind of remembers.]
[It's selfish, of his she has no doubt. She doesn't wish for peace or something that'd actually help the world. No. All she can do is pray for a single word. One that she accidentally whispers out loud.]
